Fees

We recognize that homebirth is not always covered by insurance, and therefore inaccessible for many people. We do offer a sliding scale option to a few families every year. We use the “Green Bottle” Sliding Scale System and we also offer extended payment plans which we are happy to discuss at your initial consultation.

Our home birth clients are offered a payment plan. A $1500 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place in our practice. The balance is due by 36 weeks.

Integrative midwifery packages and the placenta package are due at time of purchase. The extended postpartum care is secured with a 50% (of total fee) non-refundable deposit, and balance paid by 36 weeks.

Accepted Payment Methods:

HSA/FSA, cash, check, debit,Venmo, and Paypal. Credit cards are accepted with a 4% processing fee.

Birth Kits

Please order your Birth Kit so it arrives by 36 weeks:

If you plan to borrow one of our birth tubs, please reserve it with us for your due month, and include the pool liner, debris net, and led-free hose in the birth kit as an ‘add-on’. There is a $200 tub deposit which will be returned to you after the birth.

Access to Client Electronic Medical Records:

Bay Area Homebirth & Wellness utilizes Mobile Midwife EHR to provide our clients with convenient access to their secure Electronic Medical Record, whenever needed.

Insurance

Bay Area Homebirth & Wellness services, including lab work and ultrasounds are covered by most PPO insurance plans.

HMO, EPO will not cover our midwifery fees, but will cover lab work. To access ultrasounds for Kaiser, Medi-Cal and HMO insurance, you will need to perform them with a provider in your network or with one of our low-cost ‘out of pocket’ ultrasound providers.

Request your verification of benefits (VOB) with our biller. There is a $55 processing fee. The amount of insurance reimbursement is determined by your plan, deductible and copay. Typically, the out-of-pocket expense is thousands of dollars below the cost of a hospital birth.

The type of insurance you have is typically found on your insurance card (PPO, HMO, EPO). If it's not, contact your insurance company.
